Castle Linz
The Wasserburg was built inside the city walls and served as a fortress. Because of its central location in the city's old town, the castle is a popular spot among tourists.
Rolandsbogen
The Rolandseck castle at Remagen's Rolandwerth district was a hilltop castle on the Rhine. Together with the opposing castles Drachenfels and Wolkenburg, it was protecting the southern border of Cologne's archbishopric. Over centuries it was destroyed in wars and earthquakes - only one last window remains: the Rolandsbogen.

In 1818, it was re-assigned to the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and has since then accommodated its natural sciences collections.
